Lauderdale By The Sea Reborn

We we're so delighted to see all the changes they've made in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Last season they had just started to implement some of them and now the whole makeover is complete. Although it's always been a charming town, it sometimes bordered on being a little commercial and not in a good way.

The town has had a complete makeover with a wonderful, colorful, and playful theme based around tropical colors, sea life, and Adirondack-style chairs.

They've even painted those horrible electric/mechanical boxes at the corner of Commercial and the A1A (which were always an eyesore) in a fun way to match the new look around town.

Turn the corner, walk down the short block towards the beach and Voila! A wonderful square full of colorful chairs and umbrellas.

They've really done a fabulous job of playing up the style and charm of the town without making it look tacky. It has a quaint feel that reminds us of Sanibel Island or even Cape Cod.

This is the heart of Lauderdale-by-the-sea capped at the end by a renovated pavilion which borders the beach. It's been there for years but always looked like a bit of an addition rather than an integral part of the downtown core.

We've always enjoyed taking a break from our morning walk, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting on one of the benches in the pavilion and looking out to the sea. And now we can do it while sitting in a boat, literally.

They've replaced the old benches with this wonderful boat seating. Not only are they in keeping with the theme but they're surprisingly comfortable too.

The whole place looks great and I'm sure the Beach Cafe which sits at the end of the pier is delighted with the renovations. It's as if the city did it all for them since they border the pavilion and the famous Commercial Pier and are highlighted in the new design. Seems like they've gone organic to celebrate.

Although we don't live in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, it's always been part of our daily morning walk since we are only a mile away and we couldn't be more delighted with what they've done and are continuing to do to improve their town.

As we mentioned last year, they have a farmer's market on Sundays (from September to June 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM)  and we're glad to see that it has come back this year. In fact, last year it was only on select Sundays but this year you can find it every Sunday just one block North of the Town Square.

It's more of a prepared food market rather than fresh produce, although they did have one fruit and vegetable stall this year where we bought some delicious tomatoes. Hopefully, as it catches on and grows, more vendors with fresh produce will take part.

Hats off to the town and the designers who created such a wonderful atmosphere. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea has been reborn into a charming and welcoming little city and we're proud to be neighbors.
