Fort Lauderdale Weather in October

Starting to cool down—very very slowly.

One of our favorite months of the year when it comes to Fort Lauderdale weather is October, even though it's still hot, there's a noticeable change in humidity levels which makes for incredibly pleasant days.

The evenings are still warm and comfortable and you can wear shorts and T-Shirts all day long. Hurricane season has peaked in September and although October is still a month where major hurricanes are most likely to affect South Florida the chances of a tropical storm or hurricane decline daily as ocean waters begin to cool.

The last major hurricane to hit Fort Lauderdale was Hurricane Wilma on October 24th 2005. Prior to Wilma, they say that Fort Lauderdale hadn't had any major damage from a hurricane or tropical storm in nearly 50 years.

October averages for Fort Lauderdale are as follows:

Average High in October: 85°F
Record High in October: 96°F (1965)
Average Low in October: 73°F
Record Low in October: 40°F (1938)
Average Rain in October: 6.04"

October 2009 was really an incredible month and the driest on record, feeling more like summer than the start of the winter season with the temperatures reaching 90 degrees over ten times during the month.

It was fun having summer linger on an extra month. While our northern friends were already pulling out their sweaters and bracing themselves for what was coming, we were locking in our winter tans!

2014 has been true to form. The weather here has been beautiful, with a noticeable drop in humidity and calm seas. We had the odd wet spell but generally it has been a terrific month.
