Things To Do in Fort Lauderdale : Horsing Around, Shopping and Good Fun.

Yesterday was the perfect March day down here in South Florida.

We took it easy and went for a long walk on the beach. The weather was perfect with lots of sun, not too hot and little to no humidity. It was a great day for an outdoor activity.

We decided to head out to the Deck for a late breakfast. The Deck is a casual outdoor terrace that has a great view of the beach--the food is ok but the view is great. It's located on the A1A between Sunrise and Las Olas and is the ideal place for people watching and enjoying an ocean breeze.

While eating our bacon and eggs we decided to head out to Gulfstream Village which is located near Hallandale off of Federal Highway.

It's only been around for a year or so and is clean and well designed. The streets are charming in a Disney World kind of way with all sorts of interesting stores and restaurants and a race track and casino at one end.

Since they were actually racing, we decided to head straight to the track and do some shopping after. They have a Container Store in the Village which is one of our favorite haunts. Hopefully we would win some money on the ponies and go on a spree.

The track is really fun and a great way to spend the afternoon. Admission is free and you can just hang out and watch people cheer on their horses if you don't want to bet on any of the races.

You can grab a quick bite from one of the concession stands, sit down at a table and just enjoy the atmosphere. If you're looking for something to do outside, it's a really fun way to spend the day. Here are a few more pics of the track. We especially enjoyed the Trumpet player who tooted at the start of every race.

Between the ponies, the casino, the restaurants and the shopping, you'll find lots to do at the Gulfstream Village.
