We love the Las Olas Art Fair! Spend your day enjoying art, sampling food, and strolling in the sunshine.
We often seek out art and craft fairs in the greater South Florida area and have attended many from Palm Beach to Miami beach. They're always fun and interesting, even more so if you enjoy people watching--the fairs tend to bring out all sorts of unique characters.
If memory serves us correctly, it seems a little early this year. Normally, this Fort Lauderdale event is a few weeks-in to the start of snowbird season (which is always a good idea) since it draws in a bigger crowd.
Most of our friends and neighbors from the north don't usually arrive down here until the last week in October or early to mid-November. We know at least a few who will be sorry to have missed it.
Anyway, we couldn't be more delighted about attending, especially since it practically takes place in our own backyard.
This is the 26th go-around for the Las Olas fair and the street makes a perfect venue for showcasing up and coming artists. In all, you can expect to see about 150 artists who work in various mediums as well as refreshment stands and some years, even a small farmers market.
Each sets up a mini-gallery (in tent-like structures) directly on the street to display their latest creations. You can ask them questions, find out about the various techniques they
use in their work or even commission a custom made piece. It's a great
way to meet local artists, see what's out there, and spend the day.
So "Save the Date" ...
It's FREE admission and runs Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th of October from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
For those of you coming from farther away,
the address you would plug in to your GPS system is:
600 East Las Olas Boulevard
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301
